The measurements

A 38 cm cat house with a single door

38 × 35 × 38 cm, a pitched roof, a 22 × 18 cm door. It's a shelter for a medium-sized cat: measure yours, and above all check that they'll fit through the door.

What it gives them outdoors

A roof over their head

A pitched roof, walls all round and a single door: a semi-enclosed spot to settle in between rounds of the garden.

Walls against the wind

The supplier describes it as a semi-enclosed shelter whose walls protect from the wind. There's no mention of insulation: it's a shelter, not a heated bed.

It anchors to the ground

Strap loops at the base of the walls let you anchor it with pegs, not included, so a gust of wind won't move it.

Delivered flat, assembled without tools

It arrives in a flat 50 × 36 × 5 cm parcel and goes together by hand. Foldable and collapsible, it stores flat out of season.

The moment

A spot of their own, outdoors

A cat who spends their days outdoors is always looking for a nook: under a hedge, behind a pot, against a wall. The shelter gives them one, always in the same place.

When it rains, put it under the eaves: the supplier states the material is splash-resistant, without giving a rating.

Assembly

Assembled without tools, stored flat

The shelter arrives flat. It goes together by hand, without tools, and comes apart the same way when it's time to put it away.

Courtyard, balcony or garden: set it down where your cat already spends their days, against a wall rather than out in the wind.

The supplier specifies neither the order of the measurements (length, width, height) nor which way the door is oriented. Before ordering for a large cat, compare their shoulder width with the door's smallest measurement, 18 cm.

Setting it up outdoors

  1. Choose a sheltered spot

Against a wall, under the eaves or near a hedge: where they already like to settle, away from the gutters.

  2. Anchor it to the ground

Push pegs through the strap loops at the base of the walls. They're not included: have your own ready.

  3. Add something that smells of them

An old throw or a cushion of their own: neither is included. Then let them come to it in their own time. Once winter sets in, swap the fabric for straw, which stays dry.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about the outdoor cat house

Can it stand up to rain?

We can't promise you that. The supplier gives no water-resistance rating and no information on the seams: all you can go on is that it's splash-resistant, according to them. In driving rain, don't count on it: put it under the eaves or an awning.

Is it insulated for winter?

No. The supplier talks about protection from the wind, not thermal insulation, and the shelter isn't heated. A throw will help your cat settle in during the first few days; for winter, line it with straw instead, which stays dry where fabric soaks up damp. In very cold weather, nothing replaces access to the house.

Is a cushion included?

Don't count on it: the supplier lists only the shelter in the parcel, and no cushion appears in their photos. Give them a throw or a cushion of their own, one that smells of them, for the first few days. Outdoors in winter, straw is better: damp fabric gets cold.

My cat is big. Will they fit through the door?

The door measures 22 × 18 cm and the shelter 38 × 35 × 38 cm: it's sized for a medium-built cat. For a Maine Coon or a large, sturdy cat, it will probably be too small. The supplier doesn't specify which way the door is oriented: if in doubt, measure your cat's shoulder width and compare it with 18 cm.

Does it need anchoring to the ground?

It's safer in an exposed spot: it only weighs 650 g. Strap loops at the base of the walls make it possible, but the pegs aren't included.

Can it stay outdoors all year round?

The supplier says nothing about how it holds up in the sun or how to look after the walls. It's foldable and collapsible: the safest option is to store it flat when your cat is no longer using it.
